Danny's Gone

Danny’s gone,  He’s gone over the ocean
My Scottish man,  Has gone to seek our fortune
A pioneer in a brand new country
Danny’s gone,  He’ll not be coming home

Far away,  on the Canada’s great prairie
I’ve come to him,  And here is where we marry
Build a homestead, Raise our babies
David, Katherine, Micheal, Ann and Harry

Eighteen years of solitude and bravery
We’ve traded ancient sword for farmer’s plow
But news of war has gripped the empire
It seems the past repeats itself somehow

Danny's gone, He’s gone over the ocean
He has our Davie by his side
They’ve gone to fight,  And shed their blood for freedom
Damn the wars and damn their Scottish pride

Like a thousand years of history,
Fighting for the right to live
Take up swords,  to protect what’s righteous
The highest price that Danny … could … give

The letter came, It said he fought with valour
And medals prove, his efforts weren’t in vain
They buried him, at Vimy
Danny’ll not be coming home again

Davy’s home, He’s come over the ocean
It’s good to feel, my sons embrace
Here I’ll stay with my children
In a land, of promise, hope and peace

Like a thousand years of history,
Leaving for a new frontier
Fighting for the promise of a new life
The highest price that Danny … could … give
The highest price my Danny could give
