Calgary Song Writer

www.calgarysongwriter.com is a project Doug Faires, amazing web guy and I manage. It is for songwriters who have taken their work to the next level - recording and marketing it. This site is a hub for Calgary and area songwriters to list their urls, and other info including interviews. I believe in community and this site is exactly that.

Military Museums (formerly Museum of the Regiments)

It was here where I made friends with History. The staff taught me volumes and the exhibits captured a compelling past. A museum tour is poignant and vital; lest we forget.

World War and History Site

Time paused as I viewed their descriptions and signatures on the attestation papers (enlistment documents of David Argo and my grandfather Reginald Wheaton. Look up your ancestors from WWI here.
For the history-hungry, Library and Archives Canada is a hearty buffet.

ICROSS - Silent Volunteers Heal

It was a privilege to sing "Our Blue Beret" and "The Izzy Doll" for Colonel Don Ethell, the most awarded Canadian Peacekeeper, at the Museum of the Regiments. He sent me a gift of an Izzy Doll (they cannot be bought or sold, see next link) which I cherish as if I were a kid. And if you want to be inspired by a passionate, silent force of volunteers who are marking the world with their efforts. Visit ICROSS Canada.

The Izzy Doll

Mark Isfeld was a highly skilled Combat Engineer - a Peace Keeper who demined post war territory. Meet Mark on the tribute page built by his parents. And if you are so inclined, crochet an Izzy Doll. (more about Mark on The History of The Songs).

My Son Our Sons

Written by Carol Isfeld and composed by Jan Randall. Visit Jan's website here www.janrandall.com .

Jon Parks

Young but not inexperienced musically or with life's sufferings, this multi talent plays keyboards, guitar, drums and bass. But it's Jon's vocals that will leave you in awe. The smoothest - like Bailey's. Meet my favorite up and coming songwriter, Jon Parks .
P.S. His wife Christy is a sweety and a wonderful harmony singer - she learned from her mom.

D.C. Lund

I met the water color artist, Albertan, D.C. Lund and his wife at Heritage Park fall 2005 where I was singing back up and they were part of an art exhibit. D.C.'s art work of the prairies should be mandatory for all Canadian living rooms. The print I purchased tells the story of the Prairie elevators and reminded me of my song "Still Standing". There is another great story behind the purchase of this print…ask me sometime. But for now meet D.C. Lund here. And if you have some time, meet D.C.'s son, Corb.

Lawrence Chrismas

Lawrence Chrismas is a huge supporter of the arts, both music and visual. "For more than 25 years he has explored the culture of Canadian miners through his environmental portraits and thoughtful synopsis of the stories of their lives." As well as the photo on the cover of "The First Song" and others periodically on this site, fourteen of his coal miner portraits hang in the National Art Gallery in Ottawa. Meet Lawrence and his work here.
Search Lawrence's work in the National Art Gallery.

Real Fournier

I showed up at Real and Linda's, a stranger, with a song about his children's story, 'The Ravens and the Scarecrow.' Before I left Real had asked me to write another and gave me a manuscript for his new story 'The Raggedy Doll'. The spirit of his work moved me and "The Story of Become" was birthed. He kindly included the words to my song in his retrospective published in 2004. Visit Real's work at Websters Gallery in Calgary.
