      Scottish Canadian Connection,
                   Ellon Academy

                   Ellon Academy

               Super students!

Monday, September 18, 2006

Up early and on our drive Heather points out Ciaran’s dread of ‘going back to school’.  Oooh, not what I want to hear an hour before we face over a hundred students.  I’m just thinking give him a ‘turd cup of coffe’ to settle his nerves!

If the teacher and student’s response to The Scottish Canadian Connection at Ellon Academy is an indicator of the rest of the week at other schools then we will be overjoyed. !  Jan and Donald’s enthusiasm was apparent – the technical requirements were there, projector screen all setup and waiting for us!  The press came out to take photos too.

From the feedback, they really had enjoyed, learned and felt inspired by the Scottish pioneer.  The two classes ranging in age 12 to 16 years, loved the songs and stories and participated

Sarah, the Teachers Aid, was our sidekick for the morning and we loved her.  The school organized tea at noon and we visited, talking about all the Scottish Connections to Canada.  Ellon Academy is in the Guinness World Book of Records for the largest Ceileigh in the world, (1254 participants), taking the title from a Toronto, Canada school.  http://www.ellonacademy.org.uk/welcome.html

Heather has already witnessed the excitement of the presentation but now Ciaran is totally on board.  He is convinced the message we are bringing is spiritual and we are all brought together to see it through.  BTW, he said he said he learned a valuable lesson today “don’t let the demons of the past cripple us today.  It’s good to face our fears!”  And he said he sure would have enjoyed school if he had attended one like Ellon Academy.

Thanks to the staff, Jan, Donald and Sarah for organizing such a grrrreat first day!
