Leslie is the Turriff Academy librarian. And she was prepared for us. These
high school students again were well behaved and polite. They enjoyed the
stories and songs but now I could add one more paragraph:
“WW 1 Soldier David Argo died November 18, 1916 and on December 26, 1916 a
baby was born. They called him David Argo, and he resides today at Tillymaud. We
met him yesterday and brought him the songs I wrote about his uncle. It was the
highlight of my trip to Scotland”.
The students were very interested in the Scottish Canadian Connection and
Sarah Saxton, Kate Mutch, and Kaylee McIntosh, all volunteers on the Pioneer
Women’s Week song, were also budding journalists. They are doing a story about
the presentation as well. Thanks girls!
There was talk that we had to see George Baird’s class room. So we followed
him down the hall to a room that was no ordinary classroom! Vintage war planes
hung from the ceiling, war posters and helmets, all part of a profound,
interactive display – this truly was a Learning Room! Turriff Academy also
organizes trips to war memorial sites in France, for the students to further
understand our shared history.
